Pharmaceutical blister waste may look like a small packaging scrap, but it contains two valuable recyclable materials: aluminum foil and rigid PVC. A dedicated pharmaceutical blister recycling machine separates these materials through a dry mechanical process, turning waste blister packs into cleaner aluminum and PVC streams for further recycling.
The process begins with shredding, followed by fine grinding to liberate the aluminum foil from the PVC substrate. A water-cooled grinding system helps control material temperature during continuous operation, while an integrated dust collection system keeps the working environment cleaner. After size reduction, an electrostatic separator uses the different electrical properties of aluminum and PVC to achieve efficient separation. PLC control coordinates the complete line for stable and convenient operation.
The recovered materials can then enter separate recycling streams. Aluminum is collected as a recyclable metal feedstock, while the recovered PVC powder can be used as a secondary raw material subject to its actual quality and intended application. Importantly, PVC originally manufactured for pharmaceutical or food-contact packaging should not automatically be described as food-grade or medical-grade after use and mechanical recycling. Its final classification depends on contamination levels, processing conditions, testing, and applicable regulations. Even so, recycled PVC powder from pharmaceutical blister waste remains an attractive secondary raw material. Recyclers and material buyers have established demand, and its value can exceed that of many conventional mixed PVC waste streams.

For pharmaceutical packaging producers and recyclers, the system provides a compact way to turn blister waste into usable secondary materials without chemical separation. A standard configuration can process about 200–300 kg/h, while the crushing, grinding, separation, cooling, and dust collection systems can be customized to material composition and capacity needs. Under suitable conditions, separation purity can reach up to 99%, helping maximize material recovery and recycling value.
