Aluminum composite panels (ACP) are widely used in building facades, signage, and interior decoration. Recycling them is challenging because the aluminum skins are bonded to a plastic or mineral-filled core, requiring specialized processes to separate the materials.

Two main approaches are used in aluminum composite panel recycling: thermal stripping and mechanical crushing and separation.
For intact panels and production offcuts, an ACP stripping machine uses controlled heating to soften the bonding layer, allowing the aluminum skins to be peeled away from the core. This method can preserve larger pieces of aluminum and plastic for further recycling.

For damaged panels, mixed scrap, or composite waste that cannot be processed as intact sheets, an ACP crushing and sorting machine reduces material size and separates aluminum from the non-metallic fraction. The process typically involves crushing followed by separation, with the equipment configuration depending on the feedstock and required recovery quality.

Core composition also affects the recycling process. Standard ACP often uses a polyethylene (PE) core, while fire-resistant panels may contain mineral-filled or other specialized materials. These differences influence how the panels respond to heating and mechanical processing, making material composition an important factor in selecting the appropriate recycling method. By choosing the right process for the incoming waste, recyclers can recover aluminum and non-metallic materials as separate streams for downstream recycling and reuse.
