How an ACP Stripping Machine Separates Aluminum Composite Panels

Aluminum composite panels (ACP) are widely used in building facades, signage, interior decoration, and advertising boards. They typically consist of two thin aluminum sheets bonded to a plastic core, commonly polyethylene (PE) or a fire-retardant (FR) material. When these panels reach the end of their service life, separating the bonded layers becomes a key challenge in recycling. An ACP stripping machine is designed to recover the aluminum sheets while separating them from the core material, helping preserve the value of the recovered metal.

How Does an ACP Stripping Machine Work Process
The process begins with feeding whole or appropriately sized ACP panels into the machine. Depending on the equipment design and panel specifications, the material may require preliminary cutting or size adjustment. Unlike conventional shredding, which breaks the panels into mixed fragments, ACP stripping focuses on separating the aluminum skins from the core to reduce cross-contamination and aluminum loss.

In thermal stripping systems, controlled heating helps weaken the bond between the aluminum sheets and the plastic core. The required temperature ( 300–500°C ) and processing conditions depend on the panel composition, bonding materials, and machine design. Once the bond has weakened sufficiently, a mechanical stripping mechanism separates the aluminum layers from the remaining core material. The recovered aluminum can then be collected for further recycling, while the separated core requires appropriate handling or downstream processing.

The effectiveness of an ACP stripping machine depends on several factors, including panel thickness, core composition, bonding strength, feed dimensions, and processing capacity. PE-core and fire-retardant ACP panels may require different operating conditions, so material testing is important when selecting equipment. For thermal systems, proper exhaust treatment and temperature control are also essential, particularly when processing coated panels or materials containing flame retardants.
